Welcome! I'm Eric Lerner, CIO/CMO, manager of application development and internet marketing consulting practice manager at Millenium Multimedia Corporation, specializing since 1998 in n-tiered Microsoft and .Net public facing web, intranet, extranet, LOB and SharePoint Portal applications leveraging the Microsoft web development stack, including Windows Server, IIS, Visual Studio, ASP.Net, C#, VB.Net and SQL databases.  My focus is on improving the speed and accuracy of information flows, decreasing costs, improving quality and where possible improving the top line to improve ROI.  I have achieved great success in web marketing, including SEO/SEM/SMM.

I am at heart an entrpreneurial and business/marketing savvy Manager of Application Development a.k.a. Software Development Manager or Senior Software Development Engineer or Senior Project Manager or Web Product Manager who is passionate about technology and enjoys wearing the .Net Solution Architect and Development Team Lead hat as a field marshall while facing the business as a Senior Business Analyst and IT, collaboration or web marketing strategist.  I'm not hung up on titles; I'm all about hybrid functional and technical roles in environments where I am able to make great things happen behind or in front of the firewall.

I am a seasoned Web Application Development Engineer and Application Development Manager or Director of Software Development with deep application development team leadership experience developed over the course of a long and diverse career and I possess current, hands-on web application development, internet marketing and web analytics skills.

I am also a Microsoft Partner and hold the Silver ISV Competency for achieving Platform Ready status for developing and Platform Ready testing a commercial quality web application on several occasions.  I'm accustomed to straddling the business, technology and people sides of IT in web application, SharePoint Portal and line of business application development initiatives, with a strong emphasis on management information systems, knowledge management, collaboration and business process engineering/re-engineering.

I am a field marshall looking for leadership roles surrounding .Net web application development.  I have been the Director of Information Technology for a major New York City non-profit, Director of Application Development and Internet Marketing for a .Net web CMS product and services provider and built a mini-empire as a Web Content Publisher, a Senior Product/Program Manager for integration bridges into and from a $75M web services/SOA web product in the financial industry, Application Development Manager for the likes of Estee Lauder, Koch Records and several entertainment/media companies, and also was Manager of Application Development for ING Real Estate during their acquisition of Clarion Partners, where I had several repeat consulting engagements and I have worked for that same CIO at multiple market leaders in the Real Estate industry over the years, including my most recent engagement at Silverstein Properties, the World Trade Center developer.

Repeat engagements are not unusual in my history.  For example I had 4 engagements at the New York City Law Department spaced out over nearly a decade - talk about FULL CYCLE!  For numerous clients over the years, I have held roles such as Senior Product Manager, Senior Program Manager and Senior Project Manager as well as .Net Solution Architect, Senior Business Analyst and Senior Developer/Development Team Lead.

I'm equally comfortable writing an RFP as responding to a Statement of Work.  I'm adept at managing project plans, budgets, risk, timelines, deliverables and mentoring team members, and I am adept in delivery, e.g. process modeling, data flow diagrams, designing SQL databases, architecting web applications as an n-tiered .Net solution architect. I drive software implementations through the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and the full Project Life Cycle (PLC), from visioning/inception through elaboration, implementation, testing, closeout/transfer and evolution.

My value proposition centers on aligning technology with the business needs and requirements, opportunities, strengths and weaknesses, cultivating, leading and mentoring technology teams and cross-functional teams, formulating business cases and ensuring value for money and the investment of that other precious resource, TIME, in IT through software and application development technology direction and management.  My experience in owning budgets, managing change and risk management, engineering processes and change management, risk management methodologies while consistently delivering ROI makes me a well-qualified VP of IT or Director/Manager of Software/Application Development.  I'm quite happy rolling up my sleeves in hybrid functional/technical roles and have held, hired or backfilled every role in application development across the full SDLC.

I practice a strong focus on aligning technology with business strategy through stragic and architectural tradeoff analysis, business functional and technical requirements analysis, process engineering or process re-engineering with multi-industry experience in workflow and collaboration engineering, web application development initiatives on the Microsoft .Net stack, SharePoint portals, .Net solution architecture and software development implementations for both Line of Business applications and public facing web initiatives.  I can help enterprises in the following roles:

  • Manager of Application Development
  • Software Development Manager/Director
  • Senior Project Manager
  • Senior Program Manager
  • Web Product Manager/Web Producer
  • .Net Solution Architect
  • Development Team Leader
  • Senior Business Analyst
  • SharePoint Portal and Collaboration Architect
  • Organic Search Engine Optimization and Content Management Expert

  • Joint and Rapid Application Development (JAD/RAD)

My most recent engagement was a strategic IT development and web marketing initiative, an HTML5/CSS/jQuery over .Net web application development effort with SEO/SEM/SMM components for Manhattan's premier real estate developer.  This project emerged after serving as senior business analyst, solution architect and web developer for an in-house commercial real estate leasing pipeline LINQ to SQL application with SharePoint list integration. I designed and developed Silverstein Properties' tiffany Manhattan residential real estate property website, Silver Towers New York Apartments website. The new .Net site leverages HTML5, CSS, jQuery and jQueryUI with near total cross-platform coverage for desktop and mobile.  This was an agile development effort with progressive enhancement and graceful degradation.  I filled the senior project manager role, performed business requirements analysis, strategic SEO/SEM/PPC/Social Media Marketing research and established  web analytics, provided project timelines and cost estimation/tracked burndown as well as web solution architecture and .Net web development, Google+ and Facebook integration on behalf of the CIO and marketing.  The resulting site performs very well in organic search engine results placements (SERPs), achieving a 71% increase in organic traffic,  with Alexa showing top 40,000 NY Metro market traffic rank.

I spent the two years prior evolving the .Net solution architecture and developing Run My Website TM, a commercial quality, SEO-friendly CMS that has repeatedly earned the Platform Ready badge for Windows Server 2008/R2 and SQL Server 2008/R2 running in physical or Hyper-V virtual environments and I launched several high-traffic public facing websites to prove the technology, similar to what Northwind achieves for Microsoft technologies.  Example sites leveraging the Run My Website and illustrating my success with organic SEO and Social Media integration include http://www.freehoroscopesastrology.com, http://www.psychologistcounselorpsychotherapist.com, http://www.silvertowers.com, http://www.horoscope2012.org, http://www.horoscopeastrologytarot.com and http://www.angermanagementnyc.com.

I am a Google Engage Agency well-versed in Google Analytics, AdSense Keyword Research tools and myriad other tools and search marketing industry trends.  As a full-service provider of web application development and internet marketing services, I am also a Microsoft Website Spark Web Pro and SPLA Service Provider, an Adobe Business Catalyst partner, a Net Applications partner for web analytics and monitoring, an Elastic Hosts partner for bare-metal access cloud hosting and a GoDaddy reseller for web infrastructure and tooling with several hundred domains under management, and I have established and configured their Virtual Data Center.

I'm very well-versed in the latest IT and application development trends as well as their history, which affords me a big picture view of the IT and software development landscape and to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization. I have enterprise experience at the Director/Manager of Application Development, IT and Software Development Manager level and am seeking a Vice President of IT, VP of Software Development, Director of Application Development or Manager of Application Development role on a C2C or contract-to-hire permanent basis.

What do I do? How well do I do it? What am I looking for? Resume

I am a Microsoft .Net web application and SQL database specialist, a seasoned web development director producing quality software as an application development manager and team leader, and I architect and develop applications that solve business problems and deliver measurable ROI.

I have been leading application, portal and web content publishing/e-commerce initiatives for over 13 years on both a permanent and corp. to corp. consulting basis.

My primary focus is on improving the speed and accuracy of information flows throughout organizations and between them and their customers and vendors. I focus on process and seek to inject technology where appropriate, to reuse organizational knowledge and preserve organizational memory.

I'm focused on making it easier for people to do their jobs, automating the tasks that can be automated and simplifying those which can't be fully automated, but can improve the operating efficiency of knowledge workers.

I'm also focused on improving the bottom line by reducing costs through greater efficiency, and where marketing and e-commerce are involved, I'm focused on increasing the top line through integrated marketing communication efforts in public facing websites.

Behind or in front of the firewall, I help my clients to fully realize their business objectives efficiently and cost-effectively in their application development efforts across the full process improvement and software development life cycle: discovery and analysis (inception), design (elaboration), implementation (construction), testing and maintenance (transition).

My internet projects and legacy technology roles have run the gamut over the past fourteen years. From mainframe to client-server to the web, I've performed business and system requirements analysis, data and process modeling, solution architecture, web application development, configuration management, tool and vendor evaluations, relationship management, implementations and rollouts, performance measurement, quality assurance, technical writing and system evolution.

Inception

I begin by formulating and understanding the strategic vision and scope for technology initiatives and then fully capturing and clearly expressing all functional and technical requirements. To accomplish this, I work closely with management, users and other project stakeholders to understand, map and measure business processes, existing systems and environments. Through joint application development sessions, interviews and meetings, I encourage and facilitate the communication necessary to ensure that any technology solution is completely aligned with business objectives and that all stakeholders have input and buy-in.

Elaboration

Armed with a comprehensive understanding of the business and functional requirements for systems, I bridge the gap between business and technology by drafting technical requirements and architectural, application and data design alternatives. I serve in the roles of, or lead, analysts, architects, data modelers and developers. Alternatives are reviewed with stakeholders and technologists, strengths and weaknesses are evaluated so solutions can be selected, cost estimated and time-lined. These blueprints serve as the foundation models for the remainder of the software development life cycle.

Construction

Development is performed rapidly and iteratively with prototype demonstrations and feedback from project stakeholders at established milestones.

Throughout this process, I can lead manage a project’s resources, budget and timeline as well as the implementation effort, change and configuration management during build, package and deployment. Project leadership often requires that I get my hands “dirty” by establishing the development environment, development standards or performing database management, development, code reviews, quality assurance and release management.

Transition

Finally, I help transfer knowledge to the maintainers of the system and train the trainers in the application to ensure seamless adoption and ongoing success.
